Welcome To The Lifetime Learning Center

Sharpen Your Mind & Meet New Friends!

We offer daytime, non-credit college-level courses in a wide range of subjects, from literature, history, and opera appreciation to bridge, yoga, and tai chi (geared to older adults), watercolor, quilting, computer classes, and writing your life story. About 35 classes are offered each quarter (Fall, Winter, and Spring). Each class is offered one day a week for eight weeks.

The best way to get to know us is to visit a class. You are welcome to sit in on any class you are interested in - just drop by the office and introduce yourself before class!

Many of our instructors are retired academics. Others are current professionals and artists. All are volunteers who offer their time and expertise. Their reward is the satisfaction of teaching enthusiastic students.

You'll find we are one of the best bargains in continuing education in the Puget Sound region. Our goal is that no student be excluded by the cost of attending our classes. Check our current schedule for class fees.

Special Events

In addition to scheduled classes, the Center invites speakers and performers for lunch events at the Center's auditorium. Our annual social festivities include the Holiday Faire, a spring auction, and Teacher and Volunteer Appreciation Days/Luncheons.

Introducing New Instructors at LLC

Rebecca Crichton grew up in Roslyn, Long Island, New York, a suburb of New York City. Her family, originally from Akron, Ohio, settled in Roslyn after WWII when her father took a job with the William Morris Agency. He was a TV agent in the early days of television, representing stars like Danny Thomas and Paul Winchell. Rebecca was among the audience in the Peanut Gallery for the famous Howdy Doody Show.

Rebecca owes her love of food and cooking knowledge to her grandmothers and parents. Both grandmothers were excellent cooks in the Jewish traditions of Eastern Europe. When Rebecca's family moved to New York in the late 1940's, American women were just beginning to be interested in entertaining, striving for the image of the 'Perfect Family' depicted on TV.

Both Rebecca's parents were interested in foods different from what they had grown up with. Whether it was Cantonese Chinese food in Chinatown or Italian food in the Little Italy, they were always on the lookout for new flavors and new preparations.

When Rebecca showed a desire to start cooking at home, her family tolerated her heavy hand with garlic powder and experiments with freezing honey - it doesn't freeze! Over the years, she played sous chef to her parents for the elaborate dinner parties they gave.

Rebecca has been a caterer, a recipe developer, a food writer and now food blogger. Her enduring interest in food has finally found an outlet with her class at LLC. She and her Fall class experimented with herbs and spices, and sampled and discussed a variety of different ingredients.

Rebecca retired in 2011 from her 21-year career at Boeing as a writer, curriculum designer and facilitator about Leadership Development and Diversity. Since retiring she has kept busy with volunteering for a variety of organizations and pursuing her newest creative passion, fused glass.
